Chances are you learned about this blog post because you’ve signed up for a free subscription to my mailing list, which goes to show that email marketing is still effective.

Yeah, yeah, I know, “but, all the ‘experts’ say email marketing is dead”. I’m going to let you in on a little secret – most of those “experts” are just telling you that to get you to buy their latest product or service related to a method of marketing different than email.

Either that, or they really don’t have any idea what they are talking about, which is proven in a recent study by ExactTarget that shows 77% of consumers prefer to receive permission-based marketing communications through email.

But just like you need to know how to use social media effectively to get positive results out of your marketing campaign, you also need to know how to use email marketing effectively to get the results you’re seeking.

Here are a few tips from a post at the Top Rank Online Marketing Blog, titled, “How to Use Email Marketing to Engage & Convert Customers”.

Here are a few of the tips you will learn…

  • Content relevant to your subscriber is crucial. If you want your open rate to score higher than 20%, then design your message to solve the pain point or informational needs of your audience.
  • If you’ve taken the time to determine the lifetime value of your customers, it makes sense to communicate in a way that’s meaningful to them. Messaging consistent with where they are in the opt-in life cycle will help drive consistency in engagement.
  • If the two above criteria are met, then you should see improvement in your overall conversions.

I’m interested in your thoughts. Please share in the comments below if agree or disagree with those who claim that email marketing is dead – and why you feel that way.

Thanks for stopping by.
